GST Registration is required if the annual turnover is Rs. 20 lacs or above. In case of North Eastern states (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura) and hilly regions i.e. Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Sikkim, the threshold limit is Rs. 10 lakh.
Annual turnover includes all taxable supplies, exempt supplies, export of goods/services and inter-state supplies of a person having a same PAN. It excludes taxes, if any, charged under the CGST Act, SGST Act and IGST Act.
PAN is mandatory to apply for GST registration (except for non-resident person who can get GST registration on the basis of other documents)
A person having multiple business verticals in a state may obtain a separate registration for each business vertical at his option. It is advisable to go for one registration only in a State in order to reduce compliance work, optimum utilization of Input credit etc.
